Elizabeth Emond-Stevenson
Elizabeth Emond-Stevenson is a franco-ontarian dance artist and writer from traditional unceded Algonquin Anishinaabe territory (Orléans ON). Under the name TAKE UP SPACE she creates/performs/collaborates through connections between people/places/artforms from inclusive, intersectional feminist perspectives.
Elizabeth’s work has been/is being supported through Fresh Meat Festival, TACTICS, Theatre 4.669, Dark Horse Dance Projects, the National Arts Centre, Ottawa Dance Directive, UPROAR Festival, Free Flow Dance Theatre, Dancers Studio West, Lisbon Dance Platform, Skylines Dance & Film Series, HUFF Festival, NextFest and Social Distancing Festival. She is currently working for Tedd Robinson/Théâtre Wakefield and has danced for Allison Burns, Lois Chan, Kaja Irwin, Chelsea Passmore, Par B.L.eux, Tara Luz Danse and The Ghomeshi Effect, and collaborated across disciplines with artists such as Moonfruits, Kathryn Patricia and Joanne Dero. Her community practice includes working with Amethyst Women’s Addiction Centre, a commission by the City of Ottawa’s Public Art Program, creating and co-facilitating Conversations, a discussion series for and by Ottawa-Gatineau dance artists, and INTERFACE, a research intensive for emerging Adawe-area dance artists.
Her writing has been published by The Dance Current, bywords, PACE magazine, Ottawa Arts Review, armarolla journal, apt613, River of Words and others, and she served as rapporteur for adelheid’s 2018 re:research intensive. Elizabeth is also an educator, coordinator and guest artist with Propeller Dance. She is an alumni of the Quinte Ballet School, The School of Dance, Decidedly Jazz Danceworks’ Professional Training Program and the Banff Centre for the Arts.

Elizabeth Emond-Stevenson est artiste émergente en danse du territoire traditionnel non-cédé du peuple Algonquin Anishinaabe (Orléans ON). Sous le nom TAKE UP SPACE elle crée/interprète/collabore d’une perspective féministe intersectionnelle et inclusive à travers des connexions entre individus/places/disciplines. Elle vise à créer de l’espace pour ses collaborateurs et membres du public.
Ses oeuvres ont été présentés/soutenus par Fresh Meat Festival, TACTICS, Theatre 4.669, Dark Horse Dance Projects, le Centre national des arts, le Centre de danse contemporaine (ODD), UPROAR Fest, Free Flow Dance Theatre, Dancers Studio West, Lisbon Dance Platform, Skylines Dance & Film Series, HUFF Festival, NextFest et Social Distancing Festival. Elizabeth a eu le grand plaisir de travailler avec Tedd Robinson/Théâtre Wakefield; comme interprète elle a dansé pour des chorégraphes et compagnies tels que Allison Burns, Lois Chan, Kaja Irwin, Chelsea Passmore, Par B.L.eux, Tara Luz Danse et The Ghomeshi Effect. Passionnée par l’approche interdisciplinaire, elle collabore avec le groupe Moonfruits, l’altiste Kathryn Patricia et l'artiste en arts visuels Joanne Dero. Sa pratique communautaire inclut la création et animation des ateliers de mouvement avec le Centre Amethyst pour femmes toxicomanes, une commission du Programme d’art public de la ville d’Ottawa, Conversations, une série de discussions pour la communauté de danse de l’Outaouais et INTERFACE, un labo de recherche pour les artistes émergent.e.s d’Ottawa/Adawe.
