Lois Chan

Lois Chan is a dancer, collaborator, choreographer, and teacher based in Ottawa. Lois’ movements and choreographies are influenced by her background in traditional Chinese dance. Lois trained in the Canterbury High School Dance Program and The School of Dance Contemporary Dance Program. Upon graduation in 2016, Lois has been performing in local productions such as Fringe Festival 2019, For the Love of Dance, Tales from the Silk Road by Arzoo Dance Theatre, Wulin Dance Showcase (舞林大會), pass more dance, North of Mind, little dances / petites danses by TAKE UP SPACE, Ignite: Water Dances and Inspiration Village by Ottawa 2017, The Movement Gallery, and Dark Horse Dance Projects 2016. In these productions, Lois performed self-choreographed Chinese and contemporary dances as well as contemporary choreographies by Elizabeth Emond-Stevenson, Sarah Hopkin, and Jordan Samonas. 

Currently, Lois is the Assistant to the Artistic Director at The School of Dance and is actively teaching dance at the Ottawa Chinese Language School, The School of Dance, and in various workshops across Ottawa. As an emerging artist, Lois is seeks to collaborate and perform with local artists, teach the next generation of dancers, and explore her artistry as a choreographer. Lois looks forward to her upcoming projects teaching workshops in Ottawa and Toronto, and creating a new choreography for Dark Horse Dance Projects 2019.

Lois has collaborated with TAKE UP SPACE as a performer in TAKE UP SPACE + MOONFRUITS and in Bah Ooh Chah and where the wings grow, as well as performer/choreographer in Theresa’s poem and little dances / petites danses.

Lois Chan est danseuse, collaboratrice, chorégraphe et enseignante basée à Ottawa. Ses mouvements et ses chorégraphies sont influencés par son expérience en danse chinoise. Lois s’est formée dans le programme de danse à Canterbury High School et dans le programme de danse contemporaine à The School of Dance. Lois est assistante à la directrice artistique de The School of Dance et elle enseigne la danse à Ottawa Chinese Language School, à The School of Dance et à divers ateliers à travers Ottawa. En tant qu’artiste émergente, Lois recherche plus d’occasions à collaborer avec des artistes locaux, d’enseigner la prochaine génération de danseurs et d’explorer son art en tant que chorégraphe.
