where the wings grow

when i come into my own again
the closest to the truth will resound in echoes
that shape my heartbeat and the sun
and i will not be alone.

where the wings grow explores the dynamics of our connection with the earth and works to reveal the ties to this wildness that run deep but that have become obscured by our culture’s focus on the instant, the digital and our hunger for consumption. We are not separate from the wilderness outside. where the wings grow is an attempt to reunite our wild with the wilderness- its source and power.

where the wings grow was commissioned for the Annual Alberta Dance Festival in 2018. It was subsequently presented at pass more dance in March 2019 and as an opening act for Allison Burn’s The Key to Time Travel at Ottawa Fringe 2019. where the wings grow was being expanded into a full length work with the support of the City of Ottawa and presented at Academic Hall Theatre in December 2019.
